Day #53

Looks like things are getting back to normal again. I had a wonderful letter from Fred, one of my Compassion children, postcrossing postcards from Taiwan and Belarus, and an envelope full of fun things from BookChick (Nancie) on sendsomething.

As for the outgoing mail, there was a terra cotta army send to Amanda, my soldier, and a terra cotta warrier to someone on sendsomething. I also answered a letter from pen pal Patsy, on stationery from the Kampinski Hotel in Guilan, China!

Day #52

No mail on this holiday, but I wrote a bunch of postcrossing cards, including one to a guy who wanted his sent in an envelope, to send on Tuesday.

I have lots of China cards now, and a lot of cards from Pixar, which should be fun.

Day #51

Well, time to get back to the daily mail.

I'm starting to get to the letters which were delivered while I was away and have two appropriate home made envelopes. One is a barf bag from Sichuan Air and the other is an envelope I made

Hi, Honey -- I'm home

The nice thing about being gone for two weeks is the great mail you get when you get home!

I have my job cut out for me over the next few days!

Day #50

Last day before shutting down to prepare for China. Sent one post card today, to someone who mentioned liking frogs. I had to send her my Toad Hollow postcard (home made) from Davis, decorated with other frog stuff (you'd think I like frogs myself)

I also sent off the last 2 Postcrossing postcards, one to Belgium and one to Poland before leaving for China.

Day #49

I've spent the morning writing letters to the Compassion Children, so they will all have something to read while we are away.

Each got a letter and something else. For Shallon in Uganda was a book about MichelleObama (we are limited to only paper things, no more than 1/4" thick, with no binding so I had to unassemble all the books I sent). Fred in the Philippines got a book about Joseph and the amazing technicolor dreamcoat. Pedro in Brasil got a book on instructions for making several different kinds of paper airplanes. Esther in Indonesia and Anjali in India each got instructions for string games. Victor from Bolivia and Briana from Haiti each got pages from a book of "find a picture," things you are supposed to find within a photo--kind of like a Where's Waldo, but not quite as complicated. Leniel in the Dominican Republic, who is only 5, got pages of a coloring book. Wainana in Kenya got some superhero bandaids and a set of stickers with pictures of Jesus.

The incoming mail brought a fun letter from Cindy Y from SendSomething.

Day #48

Three hefty letters sent today -- one to a good friend, one reply to mail I'd received, and one to someone who mentioned liking maps. I recycled a map from a shopping mall in France that I brought back 3 years ago and like how the envelopes turned out.

I also sent this postcard of the Paris Opera House Garnier, which I bought in Paris, to someone who describes herself as a "theatre geek"

No incoming mail. :(

Day #47

Three outgoing letters today, two to pen pals, one to family. Postcrossing postcards to Estonia and Finland.

It occurs to me that I just called this "the postcard project" but didn't set a goal or anything. I will reach 50 days of this project just before we leave for China, when I won't be able to post every day. So I think I am going to end at day #50 and then start day #51 when we get back from China.

Got a lovely letter from Sarah in the UK...I loved the Pooh stamp!

Day #46

I only wrote a short note today, to my soldier, Amanda, addressing the death of Osama Bin Laden. I didn't want the day to pass without my commenting on it and thanking her and all the soldiers in Afghanistan for their sacrifices. But it was just a card in a white envelope with a stamp on it, and nothing fancy, so I didn't photograph it.

This afternoon my letter to Kita Wheeler was returned as a bad address. I also got a postcard of South Carolina Lighthouses from someone named Cynde from SendSomething.

Day #45

Kind of a lazy Sunday. I wrote a long letter, mailed in the dog envelope and then a shorter letter to "Emma," who said she loved coffee, so I made an envelope from an old Peet's coffee bag (it even smells like coffee)!

The post card was sent to a blogger who is having a contest and you have to guess a number between 1 and 100. I did. I won't win. I never win.

No incoming mail, since it's Sunday.
