Day #83

A fun bunch of things going out today...


I love the Miss Piggy envelope, going to a friend. There was a Postcrossing postcard of a scene from Monsters , Inc., and four letters to people on SendSomething. The one in the right was to a theater person in NY and I decorated the envelope and the letter with theater related things.

And there was nice stuff in the mail, too...


The postcard is from "Snailmail Fan," who writes that she knows I already have Waldo cards, but thought it was more fun receiving one in the mail than sending it. That means I have to actually go and find Waldo in this card, of course! I loved the stamps on her card, especially since the postal strike in Canada has just ended.

And then the lovely and talented Elle Mental sent me a sheet of her hand made stationery, with envelope. Check the stamp on her envelope (outlined in white), which is also hand-made (combined with a regular US stamp).

One of the postcards I mailed yesterday (the Chorus Line one) was mailed to ME even though my return address label was clearly marked "FROM." I'm going to have to talk with the post office and see what I'm doing wrong--this is the second post card returned for that reason.

Day #82

I think with the exception of the blue envelope (which is to a real-life friend), all of these are "trollling" letters and cards to people on SendSomething. I was obsessed yesterday! My favorite is the black and white card in the front. This went to someone who says she likes musical theater and I wrote "This is a number which was cut from the final version of A Chorus Line."

There was also a Mickey Mouse postcard which went out to a Postcrossing person, but I had left it in the scanner when I took the picture

The mail brought this great letter from a Snap-Bot member, answering 10 questions...kind of a snail mail meme!


She included a couple of mini envelopes and a home-made bookmark. Thanks, Rose!

Day #81

This is outgoing for today:

2 Postcrossing postcards, a SendSomething postcard, a pen pal answer letter and two Sendsomething letters. One of those envelopes has a chicken wishbone in it--think it will get delivered uncrushed? One of the cards had been returned to me as a bad address, but the stamps hadn't been canceled, so I just put a new address on it and tried sending it out again.

And there were incoming postcards from St. Petersburg and from New Zealand.


(I particularly liked the stamps on the card from St. Petersburg).

I also had a postcard that I had mailed yesterday delivered to me, stamps canceled and everything. I have to take it back to the Post Office and have it mailed to the recipient!

Day #80

This is what I added to yesterday's pile. I decided it's too big to leave for the mailman to pick up, so I have to drive it to the post office.

This is a Toy Story postcard to our granddaughter, two SendSomething postcards, a thank you note and two SendSomething letters, one even hand-written.

In the afternoon there were three great letters:

Day #79

Nobody can call me a slacker today!


This is: Six 3-page letters, one to each of the two Amandas in Afganistan, 3 pen pal responses, and a letter to someone in SendSomething. There was a thank you letter to someone on SendSomething, a Swap-Bot envelope with 7 blank postcards in it, 3 SendSomething postcards and one Postcrossing postcard.

It's Sunday, so there is no incoming mail.

Day #78

Well, I got home from my mother's too late to write anything (my mother is much better, BTW), but I was very happy to find a letter from my penpal Cathy, with some lovely little surprises inside.

Day #77

This is the only picture for today...a letter to a Swap Bot person and a postcard to a Swap-Bot person, a postcrossing postcard, and a letter of condolence.

My mother is not feeling well and I'm driving to her house (1-1/2 hr away) to take her to the doctor and then spend the night, so I won't be home to get incoming mail or write mail tomorrow morning. But I'll be back mid-day tomorrow.

Day #76

I spent most of the morning battling with my computer, trying to put together a "free" Snapfish book (I only had to pay the postage, so it was worth battling). But I did manage to write a letter to my new Compassion correspondence child and send out a couple of Postcrossing postcards.


The afternoon mail brought the paperwork for my new sponsored child in Brasil (is that a cute little boy or what?). I also got a postcrossing postcard from a 14 year old girl in Kiev, whose handwriting may just be the neatest I have received on a postcard since I started this project!

Day #75

Well this is a boring day. Nothing out, nothing in!

Day #74

Only two letters went out in the mail today, both to penpals, but another one was written by e-mail to one of the Compassion kids, another e-mail to an email penpal and a third letter was written, but then I remembered that I had aready WRITTEN the letter and accidentally deleted it after I sent it. So the photo really doesn't show how very productive the day was, mail-wise.

Of course there was no incoming mail today, but that's OK. I was busy doing other things.

Day #73

I spent most of the day working on Photos from our China trip, so I only wrote one Postcrossing postcard to add to the stack of outgoing mail I put together yesterday.

Incoming was good today. A letter from Briana in Haiti, 3 Postcrossing postcards, and a letter from a penpal in the Netherlands.

Day #72

Ready to go out with Monday's mail...


Letters to the two soldier Amandas, a letter to a new penpal in New Zealand, and a postcrossing card to someone who likes Siamese cats.

Nothing incoming today, but I wrote one letter to a Sandbook person in Kentucky.

Day #70

I finally got around to answering the 30 page letter that was sent to me, from Joyce. That's like reading a novelette! (My answer was only 4 pages)


I also sent a couple of Postcrossing postcards to Jan in the Netherlands. He requested that a card be sent in an envelope because he also collects stamps and didn't want to destroy the card to get the stamp. I tried to choose interesting stamps for him.

There was also a Postcrossing card sent to someone in Thailand and a Toy Story card sent to granddaughter Brianna thanking her for an Easter card we just got.

The afternoon didn't bring any penpal mail, but did bring a welcome packet from my new Compassion correspondence child, Dorvin Murugi Kariuki, from Kenya.

Day #69

This morning I replied to Tanya, whose name I then misspelled on the envelope because, I guess, my brain was thinking of her last name instead of her first. But the thought was there.

I also sent off a Postcrossing card to Russia.


And it was finally a red letter day for mail:


There was a postcard from Portugal (which is a return postcard from someone on Postcrossing), a package of 3 postcards, which is a Swap-bot project. There was an Easter greeting from our granddaughter, which my sister-in-law forgot to give to us and finally mailed. And finally there were letters from Robyn and Nancy, both penpals, and both good to hear from! I have some writing to do tomorrow!!

Day #68

I do most of my letter writing in the morning--sometimes the very early morning. This morning I woke up early, but didn't write anything. However, by the time people were starting their days I was napping until 11:15 a.m., then had an 11:30 lunch date with a friend, so it was afternoon before I was free to write, and I didn't get any writing done. However, the lovely Cindy was concerned about my blog entries where I received no mail, so she sent me a nice card (ironically mailed from just 20 miles from here). Thanks, Cindy!

Day #67

I was busy writing last night -- one postcard to my granddaughter, one to a postcrossing person, a letter to each of the Amandas, and another letter to a penpal in Ohio.


Incoming mail came from Yuliya, a woman from Jerusalem who has been reading my blog for awhile and recently started her own, and a postcrossing card from Minneapolis

Day #66

One out and one in... First was this letter sent to a pen pal in Canada


And then received this postcard from a Postcrossing person in Portugal.

Day #65

It's Sunday, so there is only mail waiting to go out tomorrow. a return letter to a pen pal, a letter to a friend in Japan inquiring about her and her friends, a letter to another penpal in a home-made envelope. A postcard made out of a brochure I found in China (of the Peking Opera, I think), and another postcard of my favorite hotel (in Guilin, China) sent to a friend in Australia. All will go into the mail tomorrow.

Day #64

It looks like I slacked off again today, but in that big package are TEN letters for Compassion kids, sending each photos of our China trip, as well as a goodbye to the one who is leaving the program (sniff). There is also a letter to a penpal, in an envelope made from something I picked up in China.


The incoming mail finally brought a letter from one of the Compassion kids. Leniel is only five years old so his "family portrait" included is a bit crude, but cute. The mother, father and Leniel are all in black and the baby is in yellow.

There was also a Postcrossing postcard from a young kid in Turkey (my first from that country) and a postcard from a blogger in North Carolina.


Today has restored my faith in mail. :)

Day #63

Bad me. Another day I didn't write anything (though not exactly true--I'm in the middle of making a packet of letters for the Compassion kids, but I didn't mail anything today.

However, I got a nice letter from Cathy with some nice enclosures and I also received a Postcrossing postcard, which could not have come on a better day -- today is Judy Garland's birthday.

Day #62

This was kind of a red letter day...or maybe a black letter day.

There was NO outgoing mail...

...and there was NO incoming mail, unless you could a letter from some organization wanting money.

Let's hope there aren't a lot more of THESE kinds of days in my future

Day #61

It was another day of no incoming mail. But I had 3 Postcrossing postcards and two penpal letters to go out. I couldn't sleep last night and I think I wrote all of these before 3 a.m.1

Day #60

There was no incoming mail today, but I had three long-ish letters to mail out, one each to the Amandas that I write to in the military, and one to my new Compassion child, Henrique. Henrique replaces Pedro, whose parents have taken him out of the Compassion program.

Day #59

I sent out two Postcrossing postcards this morning and started making photo books about our China trip to the Compassion kids.

Sadly, I also discovered that one of my Compassion children has left the program, so I won't be sponsoring him any more. Kind of like a death in the family, since I'll never know any more about him. That's the downside of sponsoring!

The incoming mail brought a Postcrossing postcard and a letter from a penpal in Ohio.

Day #58

It's Sunday, so no mail delivery and I spent so much time mucking around on Pinterest that I really only had time to write one letter, to Cindy from Sendsomething. But I absolutely LOVED this envelope which I made from a program of a show we went to in China. (And the Chinese New Year stamps were the perfect complement!)

Day #57

This was kind of a tit for tat day. The only thing I managed to get into the mail was this postcard from Hong Kong sent thru Postcrossing to a woman in Chicago


But the only thing I received was this Postcrossing postcard from a woman in Germany.


And I was unhappy to discover that somehow my scanner has stopped working. So far "kicking it" has not gotten it started again.

Day #56

Well, this is today's outgoing--each one kind of a hefty 3-4 typed page letter.


I asked for a second soldier to write to and got another woman named Amanda. We'll see if this one communicates back or not.

I discovered three unanswered letters neatly filed in a drawer before we left for China, so I have more letters to write now that I've answered a lot than I had before I started!

Probably just as well there was no incoming mail today!

Day #55

I outdid myself with outgoing mail today. Almost all of the envelopes are going to Compassion kids and are sending them postcards from China, along with a letter about our trip. There is also a letter to Amanda, my soldier, and a letter of complaint to a McDonald's which really goofed up my iced mocha yesterday!


I only had one incoming letter, but it was really a good one.


It was from Tanya, from 16 Sparrows. Tanya thought I would be a better pen pal for her sister, who says she is going to write to me too, but I'm glad that Tanya wrote herself because her letter was delightful--and its presentation was lovely!

Day #54

This was my only outgoing mail today because I spent the day visiting with my mother and tellling her about our China trip. This was a package of 3 postcards (unwritten on) sent to someone through Swap-Bot.

(And yes, I made the envelope too)

But it was a low mail day all around, because I received no personal mail either.
