Day #200

I actually didn't write anything yesterday and, since it was Sunday, didn't receive anything either. However, I did make new envelopes and used a couple of them today.

One was in response from someone who contacted me through my address on this page, one was to a penpal in Germany, and one was to my 3rd & 5th grade teacher, to let her know her e-mail account had been hacked. When I knew her in grammar school she was Sister Mary X. Now the nuns have taken their given names so she is Kathleen XX. I got an e-mail from Kathleen XX (her last name is not a common one) which begins: "Hello, Handsome. My name is Rose." I sent her a snail mail letter to let her know that she had been hacked, but told her I was glad to hear that she thought me handsome.


In the afterenoon was a nice card from our own Elle Mental, a letter from my Compassion child Murugi in Kenya, a post-crossing card and, coincidentally, a letter from Kathleen XX, in answer to my previous letter. There was also a letter from the lady who sent me a 30 page introductory letter. she said she would try to be shorter in this letter, which is "only" 25 pages. I always think *I* write long letters, but I'm a piker compared to this woman!!

Day #125

From our adventures yesterday

We went to the natural history museum and walked Stearns Wharf...so I sent postcards to 2 penpals to commemorate that!

Day #107, 108

I only wrote one letter yesterday, since it was Sunday, but I wrote two today, so I combined all three into one photo. This is a letter to a friend, one to one of the Amandas, whose unit's Facebook page I found yesterday, and one to a penpal, mailed inside a menu from China Air, which, with decorative tape, made a fun "envelope."


But what a banner day it was for incoming!!

The most exciting thing is the envelope that I put a red star on. This is my first letter from one of the soldier Amandas! I was so excited. That combined with all the pictures I saw of her unit yesterday has made her a "real person" to me, not just a blank wall that I keep throwing letters at.

The rest of the mail was also exciting. There was a letter from one of my Compassion children, a reply from the woman who wrote me a 30 page introductory letter (her reply is only 10 pages, which is a great improvement!). The cute little yellow envelope was from someone at Swap Bot, who wrote a fun letter. And then there were postcards, three from PostCrossing, one from SendSomething, and one from Swap-Bot.

Day #70

I finally got around to answering the 30 page letter that was sent to me, from Joyce. That's like reading a novelette! (My answer was only 4 pages)


I also sent a couple of Postcrossing postcards to Jan in the Netherlands. He requested that a card be sent in an envelope because he also collects stamps and didn't want to destroy the card to get the stamp. I tried to choose interesting stamps for him.

There was also a Postcrossing card sent to someone in Thailand and a Toy Story card sent to granddaughter Brianna thanking her for an Easter card we just got.

The afternoon didn't bring any penpal mail, but did bring a welcome packet from my new Compassion correspondence child, Dorvin Murugi Kariuki, from Kenya.
