Day #114

Starting to get up to date on letters.

This is this week's letters to the two Amandas, and a Swap-Bot exchange for Monsters postcard exchange (Hey--monsters can be cute, right?)


It was a thrill to get the afternoon mail, which included a second letter from Esther, this one with the photos attached. There was also a postcrossing postcard, a letter from a friend in Japan, reporting that nobody in her family had been affected by the earthquake or tsunami (though they are still concerned about the nuclear reactor). There was also a pen pal letter from the Netherlands, and a Mail Artist letter from Brasil, though the writing is so tiny and so light that I can barely read it.

Day #106

It's Saturday!


It's the day I write to the two soldier Amandas. I also wrote a letter to one of the Compassion children and then two pen pal letters, one of which I mailed in an airsick bag from China Air.

The afternoon brought a Swap-Bot postcards and a letter from a pen pal.

Day #99

I was kind of lazy today and the only letters I wrote were to the two soldier Amandas.

But I was thrilled to hear from my Compassion kid, Fred, finally. I had been worried about him, but all seems to be well.

Day #92

I love the envelope at the top, which is made from a Nugget Market bag.


Also mailed out today: a letter to my mother, letters to the 2 Amandas, and a Postcrossing postcard.

Incoming a letter from someone who came across this page and decided to write, and a clever postcard from Mrs. Andrews.

Day #85

This being the weekend, it was time to write to the two soldier Amandas. I chose a flag-theme stationery, blue envelopes with a red striped decoration, statue of liberty return address label, and a Bill Mauldin stamp. That's pretty patriotic for ME.


I also sent a reply letter to my penpal, Kathy.


Incoming was a postcard from someone in Malaysia who saw my name on Swap-Bot and would like a postcard from California. I also got a lovely letter from a new pen pal, Valerie.

Now there are two whole days with no incoming mail. Arggghhh!

Day #79

Nobody can call me a slacker today!


This is: Six 3-page letters, one to each of the two Amandas in Afganistan, 3 pen pal responses, and a letter to someone in SendSomething. There was a thank you letter to someone on SendSomething, a Swap-Bot envelope with 7 blank postcards in it, 3 SendSomething postcards and one Postcrossing postcard.

It's Sunday, so there is no incoming mail.

Day #72

Ready to go out with Monday's mail...


Letters to the two soldier Amandas, a letter to a new penpal in New Zealand, and a postcrossing card to someone who likes Siamese cats.

Day #67

I was busy writing last night -- one postcard to my granddaughter, one to a postcrossing person, a letter to each of the Amandas, and another letter to a penpal in Ohio.


Incoming mail came from Yuliya, a woman from Jerusalem who has been reading my blog for awhile and recently started her own, and a postcrossing card from Minneapolis

Day #60

There was no incoming mail today, but I had three long-ish letters to mail out, one each to the Amandas that I write to in the military, and one to my new Compassion child, Henrique. Henrique replaces Pedro, whose parents have taken him out of the Compassion program.

Day #56

Well, this is today's outgoing--each one kind of a hefty 3-4 typed page letter.


I asked for a second soldier to write to and got another woman named Amanda. We'll see if this one communicates back or not.

I discovered three unanswered letters neatly filed in a drawer before we left for China, so I have more letters to write now that I've answered a lot than I had before I started!

Probably just as well there was no incoming mail today!
