Day #162

I have apparently offended the gods of mail. I sacrifice to them every day and each day I go to the mailbox and find nothing in return. All I got today was a request for money.

However, I sent a lot--a bunch of postcards from my latest trip to San Diego, all announcing the birth of our granddaughter, a post card to a neighbor, and a letter to a pen pal.

Maybe tomorrow there will be mail.

Day #89

well, the card on the left below is my first attempt at "mail art." We'll see how it goes. It is an addition to one of the cards I got in China, hopefully making it more interesting.

The others are a response to a penpal, a response to a new person on SendSomething with whom I find I have much in common (age being one things!), and a postcard to a guy in France from PostCrossing.

Incoming is a postcard from PostCrossing and a card from someone who saw my name on SendSomething and wrote because she used to live in Davis and still considers this home.

(the PostCrossing postcard is from Taiwan but it is a card that someone in Sweden sent to her!)

Day #80

This is what I added to yesterday's pile. I decided it's too big to leave for the mailman to pick up, so I have to drive it to the post office.

This is a Toy Story postcard to our granddaughter, two SendSomething postcards, a thank you note and two SendSomething letters, one even hand-written.

In the afternoon there were three great letters:

All from penpals - Noreen, Kathy and Danette. A really good mail day!

Day #56

Well, this is today's outgoing--each one kind of a hefty 3-4 typed page letter.

I asked for a second soldier to write to and got another woman named Amanda. We'll see if this one communicates back or not.

I discovered three unanswered letters neatly filed in a drawer before we left for China, so I have more letters to write now that I've answered a lot than I had before I started!

Probably just as well there was no incoming mail today!

Day #22

This was a very busy day today, so I only had the opportunity to dash off two notes to the two oldest of my Compassion kids, both of whom live in Africa (Uganda and Kenya, respectively), and both speak English so I was sending them some "find-a-word" puzzles.

Then I went off to my cousin's house to spend the day with my two cousins, have high tea, and play 3 games of 65 (2 of which I won). When I got home there was a letter from my penpal Danette and a postcard from Darci of sendsomething.net.

Day #7

My first two pen pal letters arrived today.

1. Danette, a 51 year old woman from Arkansas, who seems to have lived just about everywhere in her 51 years--and who was born just a few miles from here in Stockton (where my mother was born)
2. Sandra, a 66 year old woman from Rotterdam, in the Netherlands, who included a post card of a tulip field

I spent a lot of time looking at web sites and discovered Send Something and ended up sending a postcard and a letter to Andrea somewhere in the United States and Sandra, in England, I think.

I also sent letters to Compassion Kids Anjali in India and Briana in Haiti. I included tiny little books of Native American paper dolls for each.

I had to go to the Post Office today to get more international stamps. At $1 each, the letters (and especially the international post cards) become a bit precious...but it's worth it.

I'm realizing that if I'm going to start getting more letters, I have to decide what I'm going to do with them. I am the sort of person who can't really throw away something like this, especially not at the beginning. I am also drowning in detritus, but I must give some thought to this! Perhaps a binder is the way to go...
